SandroCavalieriFoschini

Product Manager and Pre-Sales Engineer
Networking and cybersecurity

For over 15 years I've worked across wireless and wired networks, IoT and security. I turn complex requirements into solutions that can be designed, sold and put into service.

Profile

Between the people who design and the people who decide

I started out writing embedded software and researching routing for wireless networks at Politecnico di Torino. Then I moved into the field: site surveys with spectrum analyzers, link calculations, systems that had to actually work.

Since 2014 I've been a Product Manager at Advantec, a value-added IT distributor. I look after vendor relationships, the portfolio, pre-sales and channel training, mostly on enterprise and mission-critical projects.

Knowing the protocols and talking to sales aren't two separate jobs: together, they're how a project gets finished.

I live near Pinerolo, at the foot of the mountains, where coverage is never a given. It's good training.

My job is to make sure engineers and sales people know they're talking about the same project.

What I do

Four things I do well

Pre-sales and tenders

Technical proposals and RFP, RFI and RFQ responses for enterprise and mission-critical projects.

Product and channel

Vendor relationships, portfolio growth, channel programs and go-to-market activities.

Wireless design

Point-to-point and point-to-multipoint links, backhaul, link budgets and Wi-Fi coverage studies.

Training

At least four certified training programs a year, plus seminars and trade fairs for resellers and customers.

Résumé

Experience

  1. 2014 – present

    Product Manager

    Advantec, value-added IT distributor

    • Manage vendor relationships and expand the portfolio through channel development programs and go-to-market activities.
    • Lead pre-sales for wireless broadband and networking, with an average of 8 seminars and trade fairs a year.
    • Wrote 90+ technical proposals and tender responses of €100k or more for enterprise and mission-critical projects.
    • Deliver 4+ certified training programs a year for the channel.
  2. 2010 – 2014

    System Sales Engineer

    BPG Radiocomunicazioni, system integrator

    • Designed and deployed 150+ wireless HiperLAN and RoIP systems for industrial and commercial clients, integrating IIoT telemetry.
    • Led RFP, RFI and RFQ technical responses and designed PTP and PTMP links, link budgets and Wi-Fi coverage.
    • Site surveys, spectrum and packet analysis and optimized deployment workflows cut post-installation issues by about 75%.
  3. 2008 – 2009

    Embedded Software Developer

Wi-Next, a Politecnico di Torino incubated startup

    • Developed embedded software for wireless mesh networking products that went on to commercial rollout.
  4. 2002 – 2007

    Early roles

    • Network and web projects for public administration, load-balanced Linux servers and field support for school networks.

In the field

Projects

Wi-Fi and communications at a mining site

Extractive industry, central Italy

Problem
Providing data and voice coverage across a large, dusty and constantly changing site, where staff safety depends on communication.
Solution
Wi-Fi 7 wireless network, push-to-talk radios over the data network and BLE beacons for location tracking.

Personal projects

Lab

Personal projects, started out of curiosity or to solve a problem of my own.

gputaskman GUI

Windows, Linux and macOS · version 0.3.0 · in development

A graphical interface for monitoring GPU usage, built on a fork of gputaskman. It shows what's using the graphics card, and why.

It breaks VRAM down in real time across LLMs, AI processes, games and browsers, alongside utilization, temperature, power and clocks. For local models it goes deeper: weights, KV cache, parameters and the loaded file.

iperf3 speed test

Android and iOS · in design

An app for measuring real bandwidth using public iperf3 servers, with no ads and no tracking.
